1. Go Glamping at Cherry Glamping

Cherry Glamping, a stone’s throw from the city, puts a modern spin on old-school camping. Geared specifically towards families, Cherry Glamping sits in Elgin, the apple kingdom of the Cape. Glamping, better known as glamorous camping, boasts luxury and style in its bell tents fully equipped with modern furniture and quality linens. Tents comprise real beds, and even a lounge and wooden fireplace. 

Visitors to the Cherry Glamping site have ultimate freedom of movement to roam the well-protected and secured site, free of worry. The whole family can enjoy the tranquillity of nature and children have space to play and run free. What makes this site different is that family fun is ingrained in tradition. Children can swim in the reservoirs filled to the brim with rainwater, or nest themselves in hammocks with new friends. With only twelve tents on-site, interactions are intimate and controlled. 

Zebra and buck are sighted in their natural environment, and can be spotted even when showering.  The plot offers exciting cycling trails, Segway and canopy tours. The Elgin Railway Market is just down the road, along with a range of restaurants

2. Go Kayaking

A trip to the Mother City is incompete without its amazing water sports activites and Family Friendly Activities, an opportunity to marvel at marine life. Kaskazi Kayaks & Adventures is neatly tucked away in the northern-most aprt of Cape Town in Mouille Point. A perfect point of departure, the amazing backdrop of Three Anchor Bay and Lion’s Head can be observed from a few metres into the ocean. 

Kayaking is for everyone as it requires no particular level of skill, experience or fitness. True to being a family adventure, children are allowed to kayak, and so are dogs! Species of African penguins, dolphins, seals and even whales are often spotted on a kayak tour. Southern Right whales frequent the northern waters to calve. Marine wildlife have become accustomed to kayaking visitors, so much so that they often swim at arm’s length from kayaks. 

Guides lead the paddle out into the ocean after a safety briefing. All equipment is provided on the day. This activity is heavily weather-dependent so the guides stay ahead of the game by providing its clients with weather updates and rescheduling, if needed. Sessions run from 5:30 a.m until before sunset.

3. Play Putt-Putt at Glowing Rooms SA

Cape Town has bragging rights to many national firsts, including South Africa’s first 3-dimensional glow-in-the-dark galactic putt-putt experience. A modern twist to ordinary 18-hole putt-putt, the colourful interior and space is certain to feel like a new world. The walls are lined with scenery that is literally out of this world with a host of 3-dimensional effects.  Particiapnts eventually succumb to the optical illusion effect. 

Glowing Rooms has no age restriction, and remarks that its youngest and oldest clients range from a few months old to 84, respectively. The on-site retailers have food options and glow-in-the-dark memoribilia. Entry into the events room must be booked, and participants are supplied with a fun pack consisting of glow sticks, 3D glasses, glow-in-the-dark crayons, and a refreshment each. 

Centrally located in Milnerton, Glowing Rooms SA is easily accesible from any direction. Activity rates change dependent on local school holidays. Although closed on Mondays, Glowing Rooms is opened the rest of the week until late. Bookings can be made in advance.
